Challenge: Women in rural India are often marginalized and exploited. Married at an early age, with no education or means to an income source, this section of society remains oppressed.
ICT Innovation: To help further the cause of empowerment of rural women, JSW Foundation started the DataHalli BPM center to provide means of employment to women from the 21 villages that surround the JSW Steel plant in Vijayanagar. Part of JSW’s CSR initiatives, this center employs women who are educated only till class 10 or 12. The DataHalli operators have worked on several domestic and international clients and have been supporting the parent group (JSW Group) with various HR and Finance/Accounts processes.
Impact: Working at the BPM centre provides rural women with a sense of pride and dignity while giving them a source of income. The centre also trains the community in skills such as data entry and typing etc.
