Challenge: A study by the Centre of Disease Control has estimated that 1 in 88 individuals world-wide suffer from Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Most of these individuals display a lack of social communication and cognitive functioning. Over the last 30 years Tamana has worked closely with individuals suffering from ASD.

Innovation: Together with IBM Tamana developed two applications that uses Kinect. Kinect is a Microsoft accessory built for the Xbox 360 that allows users to play video games without controllers but rather allows them to control the game function through sensing body actions using motion detectors. Tamana recognized it’s potential for helping individuals in particular children with autism. The two applications are aimed at enhancing motor coordination, joint attention and cognitive skills of children with autism.
