A ‘Tech for Good’ platform that aims to drive technology led innovation for the Base of the Pyramid (BoP) population.
NASSCOM Social Innovation Forum (NSIF) is a ‘Tech for Good’ platform that aims to drive technology led innovation for the Base of the Pyramid (BoP) population, by developing solutions to address gaps in key developmental areas and foster inclusive growth.
Owing to the pervasive nature of Information Communication Technology (ICT), its application is being seen across all sectors to provide valuable solutions to problems of social development – to build more effective processes, better products and tools. It is this potential of ‘technology for good’ that NASSCOM Social Innovation Forum aims to capture.
Earlier known as the NASSCOM Social Innovation Honours, the program was instituted by NASSCOM Foundation in 2008, and has attracted more than 1,000 innovative projects from NGOs, corporate, social enterprises, government bodies, PSUs, students and individuals. Access to clean drinking water for several hundred thousand, saving hundreds of baby girls, giving access to financial services, empowering women and children alike, and bridging market gaps for farmers are some of the award winning projects in NASSCOM Foundation’s network.

Through the advent of technology, Internet penetration and increased adoption of smart devices, the way students learn has started changing. Technology has played a key role in disrupting the education sector and will continue to shape it by offering better accessibility, distribution and
formats of educational content delivery. It is only through technology that we can solve the three core issues of the education sector—access to quality education, effective learning and personalization—at scale. The use of technologies to enhance educational outcomes and promote
social inclusion in education has also been one of the main goals driven by the India Government. The ‘NASSCOM Social Innovation Forum – Mphasis Education category will invite applications from innovators that have created tech solutions in the area of Education.

A collective conscience and economic model is resurgent across the world with respect to natural resources and climate change. India will be at the forefront to ‘Beat the Plastic Pollution’ as the host of the World Environment Day in 2018. Its global leadership in fostering high growth and capacity in indigenous renewable energy production is evident from India’s power programme target of having 175 GW of green energy sources by 2022, in accordance with COP21 Paris accords. Our entrepreneurs have undertaken reduction of emissions across channels seriously. They have built bottom-up collaborations with governing bodies/corporates for amplifying environmental efforts and confronting traditional silos. They have unlocked their best practices innovations and integrated them with the hyper-connected world to bring forth viable tech solutions.
A staggering 41% of India’s population remains unbanked, with over 60% of that residing in rural areas. Institutional research and empirical studies show the main reasons for such drastic figures are –limited access financial institution/financial opportunities, financial illiteracy, high interest and lending rates -all of which not only hinder financial inclusion but also drive the rural population to borrow from informal moneylenders and intermediaries at exorbitant rates, only exacerbating their financial difficulties. With the rise of Information Communication Technologies (ICT), new and innovative solutions have limited the barriers associated with financial inclusion. ICT’s has enabled the creation of micro lending latforms, financial literacy applications and many more.
